Training Course
Stalking courses for
introduction and preparation for the DSC level 1 assessment are
arranged on a monthly basis throughout the year. An attendance
certificate is provided to prove that training in safe and humane
stalking techniques has been provided.
The two day courses are run over
Friday & Saturday and are designed as an introduction for the
novice and to initiate a training programme for people who would
like to manage and stalk deer in Britain or submit themselves for
examination via a DMQ recognised assessment centre to attain the
level 1 Deer Stalking Certificate (DSC).
Overseas visitors may also find our courses useful as an introduction to UK stalking & deer management techniques.
The purpose of our introductory course is:-
- to
give applicants a sound background knowledge of wild deer
stalking and management.
- to
teach selective culling techniques of shooting deer and the
subsequent dressing and inspection of the carcass for human
consumption.
- teach
the recognition of our six species of deer and their habits,
seasons and physiology.
- to
cover all safety aspects, rifles, ballistics and the British
law relating to firearms and deer stalking.
Each course involves both
classroom and field instruction and includes the actual stalking
of a deer species that is in season at that time. Full classroom
notes and diagrams are provided, which can be taken away at the
completion of the course. the course material is specifically
designed to cover the introduction and management of the six
species of deer to be found in Britain. An attendance certificate
is available to prove that you have actually received this
training for culling deer and rifle shooting in the open
countryside, which is adequate for Police Firearm inquiries.
For the
DSC examination you will need to obtain and study appropriate
course material, such as the British Deer Society's (BDS)
training manual (£30) and work through the questions which are
used for this examination.
We are pleased to be able to offer mini rifle range facilities up to 100m with the
target layout as normally used for the DSC level 1 examination, this is in addition
to our normal zeroing facility on estates at the shorter ranges. Please contact us
for further details and fees.
As you train, you may require further clothing and equipment, including RFD
equipment sales. We are fortunate to be able to obtain almost any item required
from our trade distributors.
We will shortly be opening another web site showing details of these offers, but in
the meantime, please contact us directly.
